We are proud to announce that Kwanko has recently been awarded the Gold Medal for its exemplary commitment to managing its greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. This recognition highlights the company’s dedication to sustainability and reducing its environmental impact.

In our continued commitment to corporate social responsibility (CSR), we recently undertook a GHG audit conducted by Greenly, a partner specializing in comprehensive climate strategy management for businesses.

We are proud to have earned the Gold Medal, a distinction awarded to only 5% of the most advanced companies in climate strategy, evaluated on a global scale.

What is a Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Emissions Assessment?

Also called Carbon Assessment, a GHG assessment is a strategic evaluation aimed at measuring and reporting the amounts of greenhouse gases emitted directly and indirectly by an organization. This includes emissions from the company’s internal activities as well as those resulting from its suppliers and customers.

Why conduct a GHG Assessment?

There are several benefits to conducting a GHG assessment for businesses:

  • Meeting customer expectations: Particularly for an increasingly environmentally conscious clientele.
  • Cost control: Identifying energy inefficiencies and waste can lead to significant savings.
  • Anticipating legislative changes: Environmental regulations are constantly evolving, and staying ahead is crucial to avoid future regulatory risks.

How was the GHG Assessment conducted?

The GHG assessment process follows a standardized methodology, validated and published by organizations like ADEME in France, or by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in the US. For Kwanko, we leveraged advanced technology to collect and analyze activity data automatically.

This includes the assessment of direct emissions (Scope 1: use of fossil fuels, etc.), indirect energy-related emissions (Scope 2: electricity consumption), and other indirect emissions (Scope 3) associated with the company’s activities.

Among the other indirect emissions are:

  • Emissions from purchasing services
  • CO2 emissions from digital activities (internet, data storage, and servers)
  • Fixed assets (buildings, operation, and maintenance of IT equipment)

Our employees actively participated in this initiative through a series of questionnaires, which also raised their awareness of their own consumption habits. They were asked about emissions related to their meals and their commute (mode of transport).

Our Action Plan following the GHG Assessment

  • Implementing a comprehensive digital training program to educate all our employees on how to reduce their carbon footprint daily (e.g., Climate Fresk workshops).
  • Extending the replacement cycle for our IT equipment to every five years instead of four.
  • Prioritizing train travel over flights
  • Raising awareness among our suppliers to commit to a CSR approach, with the implementation of our supplier charter, which we require our partners to sign.

Conclusion

The Gold Medal awarded to Kwanko for its Carbon Assessment reflects a strong commitment to sustainability and environmental responsibility. This distinction not only recognizes our past efforts but also encourages us to go further in reducing our carbon footprint. Thanks to the involvement of our entire team, we have defined concrete actions to continue on this path. We are determined to keep mobilizing all our stakeholders in an environmentally respectful approach. Because every action counts, Kwanko aims to play a leading role in the fight against climate change, for the long term.
